MODULE 1- PLACE VALUE, PATTERN RULES
MODULE 1 STANDARDS: The main focus of Module 1 is place value understanding. Students will work on reading, writing and analyzing large numbers. Students will order, compare and round 5-digit numbers. Students will also be investigating square number patterns that follow a specific mathematical rule.

MODULE 2 - MULTI-DIGIT ADDITION, CONVERTING TIME
Addition Strategies (Module 2)
The main focus of Module 2 is Addition strategies. Students will use their previous understanding of rounding to estimate reasonableness of answers. Students will use the traditional addition algorithm with regrouping across place values. The third standard of this unit will focus on converting time measurements. Students will convert hours to minutes and minutes to hours.

MODULE 3- FACTORS, MULTIPLES, MULTIPLICATION, FRACTIONS
Students will find factor pairs of numbers and they will need to be able to identify if a number is prime or composite. Students will start developing strategies for multiplication including breaking up a number into different factors in order to multiply and also using the doubling and halving strategy. Students will begin reviewing fraction concepts by comparing and ordering fractions.

MODULE 4- MULTI-DIGIT SUBTRACTION, MULTIPLICATION & DIVISION
Students will use the standard subtraction algorithm to subtract large numbers by borrowing across place values. Students can also solve multi-step word problems involving subtraction. Students will begin to solve multiplication and division problems. This is the key time students should begin memorizing math facts.

MODULE 5 - EQUIVALENT FRACTIONS, ADDING FRACTIONS, ANGLES
Students will use area models to find equivalent fractions. Students will also compare common fractions. Students will begin to add fractions using the standard algorithm remembering to keep the same denominator but add numerators. Students will use a protractor to measure acute, right and obtuse angles. Students will calculate angles measurements using addition and subtraction.
